Rats and mice are rarely a cleanliness problem. In Surat they are usually a building problem — a service duct running up behind a ground-floor shop, a gap under a godown shutter, a drain cover that cracked last monsoon. Find that route and the problem changes. Put down poison without finding it and you will be putting down poison again in two months.
How you know it is rodents and not something else
- Gnaw marks on wiring, wooden frames, packaging or plastic pipe
- Droppings along the base of walls, behind racking or inside storage
- Scratching or running sounds in a false ceiling or duct, usually after dark
- Chewed food packets, damaged stock or spoiled sacks in a godown
- A greasy dark smear along a wall at floor level, where the same route is used nightly
Wiring damage is the one people notice last and pay for most. A rat gnawing a live cable in a factory or a shop ceiling is a genuine fire risk, and it is the reason most of our commercial rodent work starts after an electrical fault rather than after a sighting.
Why Surat buildings keep refilling
In the older north-city areas — Katargam, Varachha, parts of Udhna — ground-floor food shops sit directly under flats, and the vertical service duct behind them is effectively a ladder between the two. In the industrial belts around Pandesara, Sachin and Hazira it is loading bays, open drains and pallet stacks against a wall. In both cases the rodents are not living in your premises by preference; they are passing through it towards food.
That is also why a neighbour matters. If the godown next door leaves stock open, your treatment is holding back pressure from their side as well as yours. We will tell you when that is what is happening, because it changes what is realistic.
How we work a rodent job
- Inspection. We map the runs, the droppings, the smear marks and, most importantly, the entry points — ducts, shutter gaps, drain lines, cable entries, ventilators.
- Written quote. What we will treat, what we will proof, what is outside our scope, and the price. In writing, before we start.
- Proofing. Closing the routes we can close, with materials rodents cannot simply gnaw back through.
- Baiting and trapping. Tamper-resistant stations fixed along the runs, and traps where bait is not appropriate — kitchens, food-contact areas, occupied homes.
- Review. We come back to check consumption and activity rather than assuming the first round worked.
- Monitoring. For commercial sites, a scheduled programme with numbered stations, a site layout and a written record each visit.
Homes, shops, godowns and factories need different things
In a home, proofing and trapping usually do most of the work and we keep bait to a minimum. In a food shop or restaurant, placement is constrained by where bait can safely go, so the emphasis shifts to proofing and hygiene routes. In a godown or factory, the job is a continuous programme rather than a visit — racking held clear of walls so the floor can be inspected, stations numbered on a layout, and a record an auditor can read. What we will and will not promise
We will not tell you that rodents will never come back. They live in the environment around every building in the city, and a shared wall or a common drain is not ours to close. What we will do is find how they are getting into your premises, close what can be closed, use products registered with the Central Insecticides Board & Registration Committee (CIB&RC) under the Insecticides Act, 1968, tell you plainly what to expect and over what timeframe, and come back if they come back. Frequently asked questions
I put down poison myself and the rats came back. Why?
Because bait removes the rats that are there, and does nothing about the hole they came through. A building with an open service duct, a gap under a shutter or a broken drain cover refills from next door within weeks. That is why we treat proofing as the main job and baiting as the part that buys you time.
Is the bait safe with children, pets or food stock around?
We use tamper-resistant stations that are fixed in place and keyed, so the bait cannot be reached or knocked out, and we place them along walls and entry routes rather than in open or food-contact areas. Tell us about children, pets or an open kitchen at the inspection and we will plan the placement around them.
Can you stop rats getting in altogether?
We can close the routes we find and make the building much harder to get into, and in most homes that is the difference between a recurring problem and an occasional one. We will not tell you no rodent will ever enter again — a shared wall, a common drain or a neighbour’s open godown is outside our control, and any company promising otherwise is overselling.
My shop is below flats and the problem starts upstairs. What then?
This is the most common situation in the older parts of Surat, and treating one unit alone rarely holds. We will still treat your premises properly, but we will tell you honestly which entry points sit in common areas and what needs the building’s cooperation, so you are not paying repeatedly for a problem you cannot reach.
