Fumigation Services in Surat

Surat moves a lot of cargo. Yarn and fabric out of the textile units, grain and processed food sitting in godowns along Udhna-Magdalla Road, containers loading out through Hazira. Somewhere in that chain a buyer, a shipping line or an auditor asks for fumigation — and almost always asks for it in writing, with a certificate attached. That is the work this page is about.

Fumigation is not spraying, and most problems do not need it

A spray treats surfaces. Fumigation fills a sealed space with a gas that moves through the commodity itself — into the sacks, the pallet timber, the packed cartons — which is why it is the only thing that works on an infestation living inside stored goods. It is also why the space has to be genuinely sealed and genuinely empty of people for a set period.

That makes it the wrong answer to most pest problems. If you have cockroaches in a restaurant kitchen or ants in an office, fumigation costs far more, takes your premises out of use, and does nothing a normal treatment would not do better. We would rather tell you that at the inspection than sell you the bigger job. For those problems, see our regular pest control services.

What Indian law actually allows

India registers very few fumigants, and the ones that are registered are restricted products — they may only be bought and handled by trained, licensed operators. Everything we use is registered with the Central Insecticides Board & Registration Committee (CIB&RC) under the Insecticides Act, 1968. Phosphine, the one most people have heard of, carries specific published conditions on where it must not be used at all.

If a company offers to fumigate your premises without asking what the commodity is, whether the space can be sealed, or who will be inside the building, that is a warning sign. We have set out what the published rules say, with sources, in our reference on FSSAI pest control compliance and fumigation rules in India.

How a fumigation job runs

  • Inspection. We look at the commodity, the volume, how well the space seals, and what the buyer or auditor is actually asking for.
  • Written quote. Method, exposure time, ventilation time, cost and what the certificate will say — in writing, before anything starts.
  • Preparation and sealing. The space is sealed, signage goes up, and we agree with you exactly who needs to be out and for how long.
  • Treatment and monitoring. Carried out by licensed operators, with the exposure period held properly rather than cut short.
  • Ventilation and clearance. The space is ventilated and cleared before anyone goes back in. This step is not negotiable.
  • Documentation. The certificate and the treatment record, in the form your buyer or auditor asks for.

The paperwork is usually the point

For export work the certificate is often the entire reason you called. Send us the buyer’s or shipping line’s exact wording and the destination country before we start, because requirements differ and a certificate has to describe what was genuinely done. We will not issue a document that does not match the treatment.

What we will and will not tell you

We will not tell you that one fumigation keeps a godown clear for good. It treats what is in the space at the time it is done; new stock brings new pests, and a building that lets them in will keep letting them in. What we will do is treat the consignment properly using products registered with CIB&RC under the Insecticides Act, 1968, tell you plainly how long your space will be out of use, give you documentation that matches the work, and be straight with you when fumigation is not what you need. We have worked this way since 1998, which is why most of our commercial clients have stayed with us for years rather than a single job.

For premises that need year-round cover rather than one treatment, look at our commercial pest control AMC in Surat, and at rodent control, which is usually the bigger long-term risk in a godown.

Frequently asked questions

Do I actually need fumigation, or will a normal treatment do?

Fumigation is for sealed spaces and stored commodities — export cargo, containers, grain, packed stock in a godown. If the problem is cockroaches in a kitchen or ants in an office, fumigation is the wrong tool and a normal treatment costs you far less. We will say so at the inspection rather than sell you the bigger job.

Will you give me a certificate for my export consignment?

Yes, where the consignment and method call for one. Tell us the destination country and the buyer’s or shipping line’s exact wording before we start, because the requirement varies and the certificate has to match what was actually done.

How long does the premises have to stay sealed and empty?

It depends on the fumigant, the temperature and the volume of the space, so we give you the exact exposure and ventilation time for your site in the written quote — before the work, not after. Plan for the godown or container to be out of use for that whole period.

Is it safe for the building, the stock and the people nearby?

Fumigants are restricted products for good reason, and safety comes from the procedure rather than the product. Trained operators, a properly sealed space, signage, controlled re-entry only after the space is cleared. If a site cannot be sealed or cleared safely, we will not fumigate it.

Do you handle food godowns and FSSAI audits?

Yes. Food premises have their own record-keeping expectations and we keep the paperwork in the form an auditor asks for. We have set out the published requirements in our FSSAI compliance reference.
