Katargam is a very different build to the south of the city. If you are comparing areas, our pest control in Vesu page explains how newer high-rise construction changes the termite and cockroach picture.
What pest pressure actually looks like in Katargam
Katargam is one of the older, denser parts of north Surat, and the pest problems here behave differently from the newer south-city areas. Buildings sit close together, many of them are two to four decades old, and drainage lines are often shared between several flats or shops. That combination is what drives most of the complaints we get from this area, and it is why a treatment designed for a new Vesu tower is the wrong treatment for a Katargam building.
Older buildings and shared drainage lines
In much of Katargam the waste and drain lines run through common shafts serving several units. Cockroaches use those shafts as a highway. This is why a flat can be cleaned and treated properly and still see cockroaches back within a few weeks: the treated flat was never the source. When we inspect in Katargam we look at the shaft openings, the gap around the drain pipe where it passes through the slab, and the trap under the kitchen sink, because that is usually where they are travelling. Treating one flat in isolation gives you a short reprieve. Treating the entry routes gives you a longer one.
Rodents, food shops and ground-floor units
Katargam has a heavy mix of ground-floor shops, eateries and small food units under residential floors. Rodents follow food waste, and a building with a snack shop on the ground floor carries a different level of rodent pressure from one without. Rodent work here is mostly about exclusion first and baiting second: finding the gap they are actually using, sealing it, and then placing bait stations where they run rather than where it is convenient. In upper-floor flats we usually find the route is a service duct or an unsealed pipe collar, not the front door.
Diamond and textile work units inside homes
A lot of Katargam households run diamond polishing or textile job-work from a room in the flat or from a unit downstairs. That matters for two reasons. First, fabric and thread waste gives silverfish and cockroaches somewhere to live and breed undisturbed. Second, treatment has to be planned around the machines and the material, so we schedule work when the unit is idle, cover the equipment, and use low-odour formulations that let the room be used again the same day. Tell us at the inspection stage if a room is a work area and we will plan around it.
Termites: old construction and new redevelopment side by side
Katargam has both. In the older buildings the usual pattern is termites moving up through the wall junction from soil contact below, showing first as mud tubes behind a cupboard or along a skirting. In redeveloped plots the pressure comes from disturbed soil and from timber left in contact with the ground during construction. The treatment differs: an existing structure needs drill-fill-seal along the perimeter and at the wall-floor junction, while a building still under construction is far cheaper to protect at the pre-construction stage. If your building is being redeveloped, the anti-termite work is worth doing before the flooring goes down, not after.
Monsoon mosquitoes in dense pockets
Between June and September the calls from Katargam shift to mosquitoes. Surat Municipal Corporation does outdoor fogging, but that does not treat what is breeding inside your building: the overhead tank, the terrace parapet where water collects, the drain trap on an unused bathroom, and the water stored in the unit downstairs. Indoor and premises-level source reduction is the part that is on you and on us, not on SMC. We treat resting surfaces and identify the breeding points; keeping them dry afterwards is what makes it hold.
How a Katargam job runs
- Inspection. We come out and look at the actual building, not just your flat. Shafts, drain collars, terrace, tank, ground-floor units, and any work room. Free, and it is what the quote is based on.
- A written scope and price. You get what will be treated, with what, and what it costs, before anything starts. No surprises added later.
- Treatment. Carried out by our own trained technicians using pesticides registered with the Central Insecticides Board and Registration Committee (CIB and RC) under the Insecticides Act 1968, applied at label dose. We tell you honestly how long to stay out of a room, if at all.
- Follow-up. We check back. If the pest returns inside the covered period, we come again at no extra charge. We will not promise you a pest will never appear again in a shared old building, because nobody honestly can, but we will keep coming back until it is under control.
Pest control in Katargam: common questions
How much does pest control cost in Katargam, Surat?
It depends on the size of the flat or shop and which pest we are treating, so we do not quote a flat rate blind. A single-pest treatment for a typical Katargam 2 BHK sits at the lower end, anti-termite work is priced on floor area, and an annual contract for a shop or food unit is priced per visit schedule. The inspection is free and the written quote comes before any work starts.
Why do cockroaches come back after treatment in my Katargam flat?
In most older Katargam buildings the drain and waste lines are shared through a common shaft, so cockroaches travel between flats. If only your flat is treated, the ones living in the shaft simply move back in. We treat the entry routes as well as the flat, and where the whole building is willing to treat together the result lasts far longer.
Do I have to shut my diamond or textile work unit during treatment?
Usually only for a few hours, and often not at all. Tell us at the inspection that the room is a work area. We schedule the treatment when the unit is idle, cover the machines and material, and use low-odour formulations so the room can be used again the same day.
Is the treatment safe for children, elderly family members and pets?
We use pesticides registered with the Central Insecticides Board and Registration Committee under the Insecticides Act 1968, applied at the dose printed on the label. Applied correctly they are safe for normal household use. Where a room needs to be kept clear for a few hours we will tell you plainly which room and for how long, rather than leaving you to guess.
How soon can you reach Katargam?
Katargam is a regular service area for us and we normally inspect within twenty four hours of your call, often the same day. For an active rodent problem in a food shop or an obvious termite mud tube, tell us on the call and we will treat it as urgent.
Varachha sits immediately east of Katargam and shares the same shared-riser cockroach problem, though its building stock is newer. If your property is on that side, our pest control in Varachha, Surat page covers what changes there.
Many of the ground-floor shops and small food units in Katargam hold an FSSAI licence, and pest control records are among the first things a Food Safety Officer asks to see. If that applies to your premises, our reference on FSSAI pest control requirements and the records inspectors ask for sets out what needs to be in place.
